Calliope shot Lisette a wry, almost amused glance. "Lisette, do you have any proof? Anything at all to show that |

poisoned Grandpa?"

Lisette just scoffed. "Grandpa's death was suspicious, and | know it was you! You wanted the inheritance, didn't

you?"

She turned sharply to the police officers nearby. "Officers, Calliope is a fraud. Please, take her in for questioning.

Make sure you do a thorough job."

Lisette had planned all of this in advance.

The cops she'd called-well, their sergeant was a friend of hers. She'd already whispered to him to make things a

little extra uncomfortable for Calliope.

"Ms. Jewell, we're going to need you to cwith us," one of the officers said, eyeing Calliope carefully.

Calliope could read Lisette's expression like an open book. It was obvious she knew these officers and had set

this up. But instead of protesting, Calliope just got up, calm and cooperative.

"I'll cwith you," she said, picking up her phone and quickly shooting off a text before she followed the police

out,

Lisette narrowed her eyes, surprised by Calliope's composure. She'd expected Calliope to lose her cool or cause

a scene. Instead, her calm cooperation actually made everything trickier. After all, there was no real evidence-no

proof of murder or fraud. This would only buy them a little time, not solve anything.

Once Calliope had left, the people in the conference room all threw Lisette dirty looks. Disgusted, they stood and

left, grumbling among themselves until only Monty and a few others remained.

"This all seems a little unfair to

Callie, don't you think?" Horasaid, frowning. He, like Ulysses, was quietly on Calliope's side. After all

she was the one who'd fixed his

injured legs. something nobody else could do. And that wasn't just talk. His legs really were healed. s

Lisette rolled her eyes. "What's unfair? Calliope's been conning us from the start. She took Grandpa's

inheritance, and you really think she joined the Jewell family out of the goodness of her heart? She's never been

one of us!"

"I get it, you're grateful she fixed your legs. But don't forget, she only did it in exchange for company shares. She

wasn't being generous, she was making a deal!"

Lisette's voice was sharp and bitter. "She's not a good person!"

"Lisette's right," Valerian chimed in, glaring. "Calliope's been playing us all along. Horatio, don't be so naive! We

were good to her, and she just took advantage of us. She never cared about this family."

Just thinking about it made Valerian grit his teeth in anger. "She's nothing but a snake."

Horahesitated. “But... what if she didn't know? About not being a real Jewell, | mean. Remember, she gave

Ulysses sof her hair for a DNA who

test. She was the old him

she might not be related if she Was really trying to scam us, why would she bring it up herself?" s

That was the one thing that didn't add up. Grandpa had never mentioned anything

about Calliope not being family. Maybe she'd only just found out herself.

Horatried to explain this to Valerian, but Valerian just scoffed.

"She's only pretending to be innocent so you'll keep defending her. She's already got what she wants. She

doesn't have to keep up the act anymore. That's why she's suddenly just finding out all these

secrets. Don't let her fool you." s
