"This isn't over between the Jewell family and her, not by a long shot! Not unless she coughs up everything that

belonged to our grandpa, and everything that belongs to the Jewell family, too!"

Valerian shot to his feet, his face red with anger. "I'm calling a press conference. The whole world deserves to

know what kind of disgusting, two-faced person Calliope really is!"

He didn't care to argue with Horaanymore.

Monty nodded fiercely. "Damn right! We need to get back what's ours. What she did is no different from

stealing!"

Lisette rolled her eyes, letting out a tic sigh. "Our dear sister really played us, huh? All this tshe's been

filthy rich, but she pretended to be broke and pitiful right in front of us!"

"We used to feel sorry for her, living out in the boonies, didn't we? She even blamed the rest of us for not doing

enough for her, but did she ever need our help? She's got more assets than the rest of us put together. Hell,

she's richer than the entire Jewell family."

"And yet she takes everything that's ours, and still puts on that poor-littleact. Unbelievable."

Monty's fists clenched as Lisette spoke. "It's downright obscene! | can't believe we ever trusted her. She's way

worse than | thought."

Calliope was quickly brought down to the police station.

Lisette's people wasted no time, locking her up and starting the "interrogation." She sat across from them, silent,

listening to their tirade with an unreadable expression.

"So, Calliope, did you scam the Jewell family? And did you have anything to do with Kermit's death?"

Calliope finally looked up. "Are you people arrestingwithout a shred of evidence? You can look into my

grandfather's death all you want, and investigate whether | scammed anybody. | didn't do it."

Her gaze was cold and unafraid, like she was staring right through her interrogators.

Her composure only made them angrier. "You sure are brave, acting all calm after getting arrested!"

He sneered, "Well, if you won't confess, I've got plenty of ways to make you talk. Plenty of ways to make you

suffer. Is that what you want?"

Calliope shrugged. "Not really."

"Then admit what you did!" he snapped.

"How can | admit to something I didn't do?" Calliope replied, cool as ever. "If you were innocent, would you

confess?"

"You're working for Lisette, right? Did she order you to frme? To interrogate me? Hope you're not too

attached to your badge because you might not keep that job much longer." s

Her indifference and icy words only made the man lose his cool, and he pressed her even harder.

Meanwhile, outside the station.

Silas had already heard what happened to Calliope. He hurried over to the police station with Fagan in tow,

arriving just in tto see the chief himself rushing toward the door. s

"Hey, Chief Judson! What's the rush?" Fagan called out.

The chief stopped short, turning around to spot Silas and Fagan.

"Oh! Mr. Myers! What an honor to

see you here!" He wiped sweat from his brow, then seemed to realize something. You're not here about your wife

are you Mr. Myers?" s

More sweat beaded on his forehead. He'd crossed paths with Calliope before. So, when he got her message, he

rushed over in no time, only to run straight into Silas.

No way would Silas show up at the precinct for no reason. There was only one explanation: he was here for

Calliope.

Now the chief was sweating bullets. He had no idea how bad this situation really

was.
