Chapter 95

When Rebecca got back upstairs, she found Jane waiting for her in the break room.

Jane asked casually, “How'd it go? You good?”

“Yeah, I'm good,” Rebecca replied honestly.

Alexander had been beaten down by Jessica once, and Rebecca had confidence that he wouldn't dare lay a

finger on her.

Jane said, “Stay withtonight. If anyone tries anything, I've got your back.”

Rebecca couldn't help feeling curious.

Jane asked, “What's up?”

Rebecca said, “If trouble really comes tonight, it'll probably be from someone with more power than Alexander. |

should take care of it myself.”

Jane raised an eyebrow and asked, “You don’t trust me?”

Rebecca replied, “I trust you. That's exactly why | think I should deal with it myself.”

Jane was effortlessly cool and always made Rebecca feel at ease. Rebecca believed that no matter who tried to

stir up trouble, Jane could sort it out.

But if Jane got involved, those people would start targeting her too—and Rebecca didn’t want to complicate

Jane’s world or drag her down into this mess.

Jane said, “Alright then. If anything happens, just cto me.”

Rebecca nodded.

The whole afternoon flew by with Rebecca following the company’s schedule, running through rehearsals for the

big event. She, Jane, Ella, and a few others got slotted into a mid-show spot.

Soon, it was six in the evening. The tenth anniversary celebration of PrimePlay Technologies started right on

schedule.

The host fired up the crowd, talking passionately about PrimePlay’s rise over the years, before handing the mic

to a few of the higher-ups for their speeches.

All the employees were seated neatly in the hotel's main hall, and Rebecca was right there among them.

Once the speeches were over, the performances began. One by one, people went up as their names were called.

When it was almost tfor Rebecca and her crew to perform, they slipped backstage to get ready.

Meanwhile, Stanley and Jeffrey were up on the second floor, watching everything as it happened.

Stanley scanned the crowd downstairs, then turned to Jeffrey and said, “Those guys are headed our way. You

really just gonna sit back and watch them cause trouble for Rebecca?”

Jeffrey didn’t say a word, keeping silent.

Stanley pressed, “You sure you won't regret this?”

Instead of answering, Jeffrey asked, “Didn't you say you weren't coming?”

“I was just worried you might have to leave early and wouldn't be able to keep things under control here. So |

figured | would cand help you,” Stanley replied, sounding all sincere.

Jeffrey didn’t even bother calling him out on it.

Stanley shifted his gaze away from the stage and asked, “How’s Andrea holding up?”

Jeffrey replied, “She’s still in the hospital, recovering.”

“So, if she calls you later, are you gonna go see her or stick around here?” Stanley asked.

Jeffrey shot him a cold look.

Stanley slapped himself and said, “Okay, I'm smacking myself for that one.” He had no idea he'd just jinxed it.

Meanwhile, Rebecca was backstage, changing clothes with Jane and the others. She was halfway through when

her phone started buzzing. Seeing it was an unknown number, she answered, worried it might be something

about the anniversary event.

“Hello, who's this?” she asked casually, still pulling her shirt on.

Andrea’s voice cthrough on the other end. She said, “Rebecca, do you know where Jeffrey is? I've been

trying to call him, but | just can’t get through.”

Rebecca blinked in disbelief, staring at her phone like she’d just seen a ghost.

Rebecca's jaw practically dropped as she gawked at her phone, totally thrown off by the call. She thought,

‘Didn't I block her number?”

Andrea raised her voice and said, “Is he with you at PrimePlay’s tenth anniversary event? Can you go find him

for me? I'm not feeling well right now, and I'm really struggling.”

“How much are you paying?” Rebecca asked, totally unfazed-she was used to Andrea’s tricks by now.

Andrea paused, clearly not expecting that response.

Rebecca said, “If it’s less than 30 million, forget it, | don’t have tfor small-tgigs like this.”

Andrea said, “I...”

Before Andrea could finish, Rebecca bluntly hung up.

The crew glanced over, curious about the conversation.

Ella asked, “Rebecca, who was that?”

“Just a scammer, nothing worth fussing over. | just messed with them for a bit,” Rebecca shrugged as she slipped

into her dress. She threw on a quick layer of makeup and styled her hair in record time.

Jane and the others were blown away by how fast she was.

With less than half an hour to go before showtime, Rebecca helped everyone finish their makeup, fix their hair,

and add the final touches to their accessories after they changed.

“With skills like yours, why aren’t you a pro makeup artist?” Ella said, genuinely amazed by the magical

transformation Rebecca pulled off.

Rebecca paused, thinking, ‘Good point. Maybe | could pick up smakeup gigs on the side.”

Twenty minutes later, it was showtfor Rebecca and her crew-their act was called “Legends of Play” based on

PrimePlay Technologies’ very first game.

Rebecca took the piano, while the other four cosplayed as characters from the game, really bringing the world to

life.

The thfor the tenth anniversary celebration was “Staying True to Our Roots.”

Seeing that, Rebecca did sresearch on everything PrimePlay Technologies had ever done, and ended up

picking this performance as the best fit.

Stanley said, “Wow, | didn’t know Rebecca could work a crowd like this. If the founders of PrimePlay Technologies

saw this, they'd be on their feet giving her a standing ovation.”

Jeffrey's eyes were locked on Rebecca.

Sitting on stage with pure elegance, Rebecca let her slender, pale fingers dance across the black-and-white

keys. For the first tin ages, she looked genuinely at ease, her confidence shining through.

Stanley couldn’t help but notice how intensely Jeffrey was watching her. He was just about to make a snarky

comment when his phone suddenly buzzed in his pocket. He answered, “Hello?”

Andrea’s voice cthrough, saying, “Mr. Garcia, it's Andrea.”

Stanley froze for a second, instinctively glancing over at Jeffrey, who was standing right next to him.

Noticing Stanley's stare, Jeffrey asked casually, “What's up?”

Andrea said, “Is that Jeffrey? Is he with you? Can you pass the phone to him? I've been trying to call him, but |

can’t get through”

Stanley was tempted to say no, but Andrea had already recognized Jeffrey’s voice; any denial now would only

make him look worse.

Jeffrey thought Stanley had something to take care of, so he said, “If you've got something to do, go ahead.

We're good here.”

Stanley handed the phone over and said, “It’s for you.”

Jeffrey shot him a puzzled glance before taking the phone. He answered, “Hello?”

Tticked by. Jeffrey’s expression grew even calmer-so calm it felt like the quiet before a storm.

Stanley thought, ‘Stupid mouth-why did | have to go and make a guess like that?"

“Alright, I'll be right there,” Jeffrey said, sounding as cool as ever. But if one watched his hands, one’d see his

knuckles turning white-he was gripping that phone way tighter than before.
