Iris had stopped caring about Heriberto’s heartlessness. She nonchalantly raised her eyebrows. “Sorry, | forgot.”

She took the stuff out of the car and made a phone call.

After hanging up, she turned to Mara and asked, “The clothes and shoes I'm wearing were bought with

Heriberto’s money. Should | take them off?”

Mara gave a phony smile. “If you want.”

She wanted to see how tough Iris really was.

She thought, “Iris used to have the Aguilera family to back her up.

“But now, she’s nobody. What makes her think she’s good enough for Mr. Hale, the heir to Ardiham’s wealthiest

fami- ly?”

She had always had it out for Iris.

“Fine.”

Iris went to the master bedroom on the third floor to find an old dress from three years ago.

Mara was right on her heels, even staying at the door of the walk-in closet while she changed.

“Ms. Aguilera, you didn’t take anything else, did you?” Mara asked when Iris cout in the old dress.

“Wanna search me?” Iris asked, staying cool.

Mara smiled again. “Let's have a look for your sake.”

She reached into Iris’s coat pockets.

Iris closed her eyes and let Mara search her all over.

“All done. You can go now,” Mara said, looking satisfied.

After leaving Heriberto’s villa, Iris settled down in the cool shade of a nearby tree and waited for her good friend

Nathaniel Cantrell to pick her up.

When she left the hospital, the doctor told her to stay in bed as much as possible for the next week, trying not to

She was determined to keep her babies safe.

There was no way she would let anyone else take care of them.

When she was 19, under a brutal freeze of over thirty degrees below zero, she jumped into the freezing river to

save Heriberto and got swept away. It took a full hour before someone finally pulled her out.

She had always been physically fragile, and that incident messed up her health. Even the old doctor said it would

be hard for her to get pregnant in the future.

Now, miraculously, she had twins. She couldn't let anything happen to them.

After about 15 minutes, Nathaniel’s car sped over and stopped in front of her.

“What happened?”

He jumped out. When he saw Iris sitting on a big rock by the roadside lawn, pale-faced, in her pajamas and

slippers, with a big cardboard box beside her, his brow knitted into a deep frown.

Iris raised an eyebrow. “I got kicked out.”

Nathaniel was stunned into silence.

Seeing his shocked expression, she let out a small smile. “What are you standing there for? Are you gonna help

or

not?”

Nathaniel looked at her calm smile, but something in his chest tightened.

“Did Heriberto divorce you because of Melanie?”

“Something like that,” Iris replied flatly, her face emotionless.

Then she stood up to lift the box from the ground.

Nathaniel stepped forward and grabbed her arm.
