Chapter 825
Margot trudged along with a downcast expression, her tiny face clouded with
worry.
"We've been to every hospital, even abroad," she mumbled, "but they just can't find anything."
"How can that be?" Marguerite replied, a hint of urgency creeping into her voice. "They must've done a CT scan,
right? They should be able to spot even the smallest shadow in the brain."
Margot stopped abruptly, her big, round eyes looking at Marguerite with a mix of confusion, sadness, and a
touch of defiance. Despite the child's young age, Marguerite could see the weight of the world resting on her
small shoulders.
Guilt washed over Marguerite, realizing she might have been too harsh. After all, Margot was just a three-year-
old, tagging along as her father, Silas, went to countless doctor appointments. How much could she truly
understand?
Trying to make amends, Marguerite began rifling through her bag for the CT report, determined to get some

stubborn determination. "What's wrong, Margot?" Marguerite asked gently. "Let's show the report to the doctor,
okay?"
Margot shook her head, surprising Marguerite with her next words. "Ms. Marguerite, maybe you shouldn't see my
daddy for a while."
The statement left Marguerite stunned and a little hurt. "What do you mean, Margot?"
Margot carefully put the report back into her little backpack, her eyes never leaving Marguerite's face. Her small
chest rose and fell with the weight of unspoken sorrow.
This woman standing before her was her mother, the one she had longed for during the past six months. While
she and her daddy were overseas trying to heal, she had learned about her mom's struggles. She knew her
mother was not well, crying day and night, a mere shadow of her former self.
Margot had wanted to bring her father back to see her mom, her brother Hayes, and her grandparents. But she
couldn't. She wasn't strong enough, and her daddy had forgotten her mom entirely.
To keep a piece of her mom alive, she'd changed her nfrom "Teresa" to "Margot," hoping that even if her
dad forgot her mom's face, he wouldn't forget her name.
Margot had been waiting for the right moment when her parents would reunite, hoping her dad would fall in love
with her mom all over again, and then she could reveal everything. But she had underestimated the forces
against her.
She snapped back to reality, facing the woman she dreamt about every night, yet unable to call her "mom."
It was a pain that almost tore her apart.
She took a deep breath, clenched her tiny fists, and forced herself to say, "Ms. Marguerite, my daddy doesn't get
headaches anymore, except when he sees you. Then he needs painkillers. He can't keep doing this."
"I only have one daddy," she added, her voice trembling with the effort to hold back tears. "I can't lose him, too."
Marguerite's eyes welled up with tears. She had thought Margot liked her and that she could channel her feelings
for Teresa into affection for the little girl. She hadn't expected such a declaration.
"Is this the urgent matter you wanted to telltoday?" Marguerite asked, her heart aching.
Margot nodded, suppressing her tears. "Yeah," she whispered, her voice betraying her true feelings.
Reluctantly, Marguerite gently pinched Margot's chubby cheek, forcing a weak smile. "Alright, sweetheart. |
