Chapter 836
"Walk her back to her apartment?"
Marguerite had already promised Margot she wouldn't meet up with him again. Breaking that promise, there was
no way she could let him escort her hnow.
Just as Marguerite was about to decline, a youthful voice chimed in from behind them at just the right moment.
"That's a good idea! It's late, and it wouldn't be safe for Mom andto go halone."
Who else could deliver such a mature line with a childish lilt but Hayes?
Turning around, they saw Hayes standing there, holding Margot's hand. His expression was quite something-like
a little detective catching someone in the act, yet when he glanced at Silas, there was an insightful look in his
eyes.
It was as if he was trying to suss out whether this man had been giving his mom a hard time!
Margot, on the other hand, wasn't pleased. She let go of Hayes' hand, her little face scrunched up in annoyance.
"You guys took my daddy away, and now | have to eat alone!"
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtMarguerite recognized what this was-Margot's way of keeping Silas and her from meeting alone. So she
chuckled, offering a comforting promise, "We won't take your daddy away. We'll be back soon."
Silas, paying no mind to Marguerite's words, leaned down and scooped his daughter up, carrying her to the front
door of their suburban hbefore gently setting her down.
His tone was kind and soothing, yet impossible to refuse, "Be good, sweetheart. Daddy will be back soon. How
about you have dinner with Nanny, okay?"
No! Absolutely not!
Maurice was always lurking around, and if he saw Daddy and Mommy together, they'd definitely be in danger.
But the little guy glanced at his mom and then at Hayes, realizing they hadn't seen each other in a while. Even if
he couldn't spill the beans, letting them reunite for a bit wasn't a bad thing.
Especially since the suburban house was close to Mom's apartment, and with Daddy's security detail
everywhere, they should be safe.
Margot could only pout and concede, "Fine, fine! It's not like | can stop Daddy anyway! Just cback soon!"
She dashed back inside, her tiny voice calling out, "Nanny! Cdownstairs and have dinner with me!"
Silas pulled a mask from his pocket, slipping it on before adeptly picking up Hayes in his arms. He gestured to
Marguerite, "Let's go."
The suburban house was close to her apartment, so Silas didn't bother with the car or calling a cab. They could
just walk.
Marguerite watched him in amazement, unable to refuse anything.
She jogged a couple of steps to catch up, "You should put Hayes down. He can walk on his own."
Silas glanced at her, then turned away. "It's fine. Hayes is much lighter than Margot."
He didn't quite know why, but ever since he first saw Hayes, he'd wanted to hold him. Today presented the
perfect opportunity.
And Hayes was all too willing because being held meant he was close enough to inspect the man's face for any
signs of injury.
Unfortunately, the man was wearing a mask, hiding everything from view.
The tsoon left the residential area behind, stepping into the lively city buzz. Neon lights adorned shop fronts,
and the streets were alive with bustling traffic. As they passed a small park, Marguerite noticed vendors selling
their wares at the gate. One elderly woman had a stall of scarves. They were cheaply made but cin a
dizzying array of patterns, catching Marguerite's eye for a moment longer.
The old woman noticed her interest and, as they approached, took the chance to call out, "Hey there, young
lady! These scarves would look great on you. Why don't you have your husband buy you one?"
Husband? It seemed she and Silas had been mistaken for a couple again.
But Marguerite didn't feel the need to correct a stranger about her relationship with Silas. She smiled and shook
her head in polite refusal.
Silas, however, blocked her path, as if to solidify that mistaken identity. He turned to the boy he held high in his
arms and softly instructed, "Why don't you pick one out for your mom?"
