After Rosemary and Jacques arrived in Riverspire City, they checked into the International Hotel. The reason for Rosemary's visit was, of course, the ongoing negotiations about the nanomedicine project.
When Charlotte and Evander arrived, they found Rosemary in the hotel's expansive dining hall, deep in conversation with Professor Aldridge's team. Rosemary wasn't fluent in foreign languages, but luckily, she had her diplomat son to interpret, which made it easy for her to keep up with Professor Aldridge's discussions.
As someone beside Rosemary murmured something, she turned toward the two newcomers, her eyes crinkling in a gentle smile. "Lottie, Evander, you're here." "Grandma, Dad..." Charlotte greeted them politely, her tone still marked by the old formality.
Until Evander signed the papers, she was still a daughter-in-law of the Howard family.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtJacques nodded. "How have you been settling in here in Riverspire?" Charlotte replied softly, "It's been fine." "Lottie, I'm sure you've already met Professor Aldridge?" Rosemary reached out and took her hand warmly.
Charlotte smiled. "Yes, we've met." Professor Aldridge chimed in as well, “She made quite an impression on me. I only found out later that she was Old Mr. Carstairs' student-I must say, I'm rather embarrassed I didn't realize sooner." After a bit of small talk, everyone made their way to the table.
Suddenly, Rosemary changed the subject and inquired about one of Professor Aldridge's students.
Charlotte glanced up, meeting his gaze.
1/3 11-27 X Chapter 312 Professor Aldridge replied, "She wasn't exactly my student. I was impressed by her research, but there were sconcerns about her character. It's a real shame, honestly." Rosemary looked surprised. "Is that so..." Charlotte traced circles absently on her clean plate, unable to suppress a faint, amused smile. "Tricia's research is undeniably brilliant. Ten years ago, she published a controversial paper on neural stem cell transplantation- way ahead of its time, really." Evander watched her in silence.
"What did you say?" Rosemary's brows furrowed, and she turned to Professor Aldridge. "The student you mentioned-was it Tricia?" "Yes, that's right." Rosemary let out a startled laugh. "That can't be..." "Grandma, Evander knows all about it. Tricia admitted it herself, in public," Charlotte added lightly.
Evander's expression darkened almost imperceptibly. He'd known this was coming.
Rosemary's gaze flicked to Evander for confirmation.
He pressed his lips into a thin line. "She did admit it, in front of everyone." Charlotte smiled again. "Tricia may have questionable morals, but she's a gifted doctor. If she really becProfessor Aldridge's student, her future would be limitless. If she could keep working on the nanomedicine project, it'd be a huge asset for all of us." Evander narrowed his eyes, recognizing the sarcasm in her tone but choosing not to expose her.
"Lottie, are you... being serious?" Rosemary asked, clearly in disbelief.
"Of course I am, Grandma," Charlotte replied, without a trace of hesitation.
14:37 Chapter! Rosemary lapsed into silence. Professor Aldridge, oblivious to the undercurrents, simply nodded in agreement, thinking Charlotte was praising Tricia's abilities. “Indeed, if she could participate in the nanomedicine project, it would certainly benefit us." Charlotte lifted her glass, a flash of coldness flickering in her eyes-gone before anyone could notice. Midway through the meal, Charlotte excused herself to the restroom.
As she rounded the corner, someone seized her arm. Off balance, she turned and collided with a man's chest. She didn't even have to look up; the familiar scent told her instantly who it was.
His voice was low and rough. "Did you mean what you said back there?" She lifted her gaze, unruffled. "You're upset because I spoke up for your ex-girlfriend?"
"Charlotte." He gripped her shoulders, pinning her gently against the wall. "Tricia and bare Tong over. You don't Է ՈՉ need to keep reminding me." She nodded. "Alright. I won't mention it again."
Her easy concession drove a thorn deeper into Evander'schest-something he couldn't touch, couldn't remove.
Whether she went along with him or pushed him away, there was always an invisible distance between them, distant something neither could seem to cross.
