Chapter 403 "Looking at how things have becbetween you two, do you think you still have the right to call her your wife?" Terence spat.

"You're just acknowledging her for the sake of your ego," he continued. "You don't deserve her!" Xavier's expression hardened, yet a cold smirk played on his lips.

Clenching his jaw, he sneered and replied, "Whether I deserve her or not doesn't matter. What matters is that as long as I refuse to divorce her, she'll still remain my legal wife!" None of them could go against the law.

Terence glared at him with newfound determination, unwilling to yield.

The elevator door suddenly opened. A few uniformed police officers filed out of it, while a nurse was leading the way.

When they passed Xavier and Terence, the tension lingering in the air made their breaths hitch.

The nurse opened the door. "Ms. Lynde is in this ward." Hearing the door open, Sarah grew visibly flustered when she saw the police entering the ward. Now that Bruce had been arrested, his statement would've proven that she was the one who'd instructed him to hurt Lily.

Fortunately, his statement alone wasn't enough to prove that she was acquainted with him. Yet, at the stime, she also couldn't prove her innocence.

When the police officers filed in, she spotted the man at a standstill with Terence through the door gap. Resentment and possessiveness glinted in Xavier's eyes. Sarah knew better- men only got possessive over women, and she was certain it was about Lily.

"Ms. Lynde, Bruce accused you of instructing him to assault Ms. Joyner. Please follow us back to the police station for an interrogation," the police began, interrupting her line of thought.

Sarah snapped back to her senses. But before she could respond, Xyla bristled and shouted, "You guys must be mistaken! My sister is innocent. She's such a kind soul-she would never do anything like that!" Last night, Xyla had gotten so emotionally overwhelmed that the nurses had to sedate her to calm her down. Her heart condition was barely stabilized.

Now that the police were here, she was agitated once again.

"Xyla, calm down," Sarah said, immediately soothing her.

Outside the ward, Xavier heard the commotion inside and withdrew his gaze from Terence.

Utterly displeased, he snarled, "Before you remindwhether I'm worthy or not, take a good look at your own position first. What right do you have to interfere in matters betweenand my wife? He strode into the ward and closed the door.

Xyla collapsed into Sarah's arms, weeping uncontrollably despite the latter's attempts to comfort her.

Hearing the door close, she looked up and saw that it was Xavier. Shem quickly pulled away from her sister's embrace and began, "Xavier, you have to help Sarah! She's innocent!" The police glanced at him and exchanged uncertain glances. Unease settled in their hearts-what should they do if he decided to protect Sarah? Their anxiety was nothing compared to Sarah's.

She shot a nervous look at Xavier, afraid that he would turn his back on her. Though she knew she was innocent and that nothing would happen to her, she still hoped that he would stand up for her.

He cared most about Xyla, after all. For the sake of Xyla, especially given her current state, he would at least have a sliver of pity for her, right? But her heart wavered; she wasn't confident.

Under her anxious gaze, Xavier finally helped Xyla back onto the hospital bed.

"Xyla, the law will clear her nif she's innocent."
