Chapter 50

Izzy froze the moment she stepped into her office. Calen was there, leaning against the edge of her desk. his

sharp eyes watching her as if he’d been waiting all night. The faint stench of alcohol hit her nose before he even

spoke..

“It's nice seeing you, Izzy,” Calen smirked.

“What are you doing here?” she asked. The man was still wearing the sclothes he’d worn during the

presentation. Did he spend the night in her office?

t

“I want you to tell the board that you wantto lead the project Calen said.

“You reek...” she responded, frowning. The man smelled like alcohol. “Have you been here all night?” she asked,

ignoring his previous words. She placed her bag on the table and crossed her arms. Sadly, she couldn't just call

Anna, as it was Saturday She’d only chere to get her other work laptop. All the excitement yesterday had

made her forget about it

Who would have thought Calen would be here too?

“It’s a Saturday, Calen. Why are you even here?” she asked. In fact, the only reason she'd cwas to grab

simportant items. She wasn’t planning to stay, as she had another appointment with Liam today. The man

was even waiting for her outside in the car.

“I should ask you the sthing.” Calen said slowly, getting up and approaching her. “It's Saturday, Izzy. Why

are

you here!

Izzy froze in her tracks, her hand gripping the edge of the desk as she stared at him. Now that he was closer, she

could clearly see his disheveled appearance. The faint sway in his posture and the unmistakable smell of alcohol

clinging to him made her stomach churn

“What do you want, Calen?” she asked, keeping her voice measured as she opened a desk drawer. She pressed

her finger against the scanner, unlocking it with a faint click. She needed to get out of here as soon as possible,

she thought inwardly.

“I already told you,” Calen said, taking a step closer. “I want you to tell the board | should be leading the project.

You know | should be in charge. | deserve it, Izzy.”

She ignored him, pulling out her work laptop and tucking it under her arm. “You need to leave, she said simply as

she grabbed her bag and turned toward the door.

“Why have you been so distant?” Calen’s voice was sharper now, his frustration bubbling to the surface. “Is this

just about sstupid anniversary date! You're punishingover something that doesn’t even matter?”

Izzy stopped, her fingers tightening around the laptop. She turned her head slightly, her eyes narrowing.

“Punishing you?” she repeated, her voice steady. “That's what you think this is?”

Calen stepped closer, his movements slow and unsteady. He reached out as if to grab her arm, but Izzy shifted

just out of reach.

“What else would it be? You've been cold, avoiding me, acting like I'm the bad guy. | made a mistake, alright?

But this... this is too much,” he said. “You know | was busy. Father wouldn't letget a day off. You fucking

know that! Why the hell are you throwing a tantrum over sanniversary!?”

Izzy pursed her lips, her gaze icy. “You're drunk. You need to leave before you say something you can’t take

back.”

Calen laughed bitterly, running a hand through his messy hair. “Oh, I've already said plenty | can’t take back.

What about you, Izzy? You're not even willing to talk to me. How is that fair?

Izzy narrowed her gaze. She had seen him drunk countless times and knew what he was capable of. She took out

her phone and tried to call security, only for Calen to snatch it from her hand and throw it on the floor.

what the-are you insane?” she asked, her voice rising.

Izzy's eyes darted to the shattered phone lying on the floor, disbelief coursing through her. Her pulse quickened

as Calen stepped closer, his movements erratic, Before she could react, his hand shot out, gripping her arm

tightly. The force made her stumble, and she yanked her arm back instinctively, her other hand gripping the

laptop

“Let go of me!” she snapped, her voice sharp as she stomped on his foot with her heel.

Calen let out a hiss of pain, staggering back. “What the hell, Izzy he growled, his face contorted with frustration

“What the hell is wrong with your brain, Calen?” Izzy shot back, her breathing unsteady as she took another step

away from him. “Stay away from me!

“You bitch,” Calen spat, pointing a trembling finger at her. “You think you can just walk all over me? Like I'm

nothing? | made you. Izzy. Everything you have is because of me.”

Izzy's jaw clenched. Boiling anger snapped free as her hand flew across his face. The slap reverberated in the

tense silence. Calen froze, his eyes wide in shock as he slowly brought his hand to his check.

“That's for every tyou madefeel like | was less,” Izzy said her voice low. She bent down to grab her

phone from the floor, cradling it in her hand to assess the damage.

Calen didn’t move at first, his expression unreadable. When Izzy straightened and headed for the door, he

stepped in front of her, blocking her path

“Move,” she demanded.

Instead of complying, Calen shoved her backward with enough force that she lost her footing and fell. Her laptop

clattered beside her as she landed hard, pain shooting up her spine. Her wide eyes locked onto his, and for the

first time, she saw something truly monstrous in his gaze.

“Why can’t you just do what | say?” Calen asked, his voice eerily calm, though his posture screamed volatility,

“You've always done it before. What's changed?”

Izzy scrambled to her feet as she got up. Her back pressing against the desk as Calen took another step toward

her. Her heart pounded, but her glare remained steady. She shifted slightly, putting the desk between them as

her mind raced for an escape.

“What's changed, Izzy?” Calen demanded again, louder, more desperate. “Tell me! What's different now?”

Izzy's hands tightened into fists. “Everything, Calen,” she spat. “Everything is different because I finally realized

how pathetic you are!”

He flinched but recovered quickly, his face twisting with anger and disbelief. “Pathetic? You think you're better

thannow? You wouldn't be here without me, huh!? Remember this! lan tell father to fire you! | can do

whatever | fucking want! So you fucking tellnow! What the fuck changed?”

Calen lunged forward, but before he could take another step, a deep, steady voice rang out from the doorway,

freezing him in place.

“Me.”

The single word cut through the tension like a knife.

Both Izzy and Calen turned toward the source. Liam stood in the doorway, his frrigid, his eyes sharp as they

locked onto Calen. His calm presence was electric, and in the silence that followed, his next words were even

sharper

“I'm here now.”

Laden’s expression faltered for a moment, but before he could react further, Liam strode into the room and

swung his fast towards him. The sound of the punch echoed in the office. Calen staggered, clutching his jaw as

he let out a startled grunt.

“Liam!” 1zzy exclaimed.
