Aubrey’s POV

Beta werewolves healed fast. The blisters on Jimmy's face began fading right before our eyes-but it didn’t erase
how pitiful he looked now.
“Jax!” Aurelia shrieked tically. “Aubrey’s mental state is clearly unstable-she needs immediate, mandatory
therapy!”
Dad turned ontoo, furious. “Aubrey! What's gotten into you? He's the therapist your mother and I brought in
to help you!”
Help me? | nearly laughed. Helpbecthe star of a viral porn video? Help destroy my nand future?
Jimmy, on the other hand, calmly wiped the coffee off his face, keeping that smug, righteous mask perfectly
intact. “Please don’t be angry, Mr. Jax. Psychological trauma can lead to violent outbursts.”
He looked atwith that fake holy-man expression and said, “Ms. Aubrey, | genuinely want to help you.”
His voice was poison wrapped in honey-the ssickly-sweet tone he used to manipulate Omegas. I'd fallen for
that false kindness once before. Right up until he ripped off his mask and pressed that drugged cloth over my
mouth and nose-
“You're still missing a little sincerity, ‘Doctor.”
| smirked, aimed for that lying mouth of his-and hurled the porcelain cup straight at his face.

The sharp sound of shattering china was followed by a muffled groan. Blood dripped from the corner of his
mouth, staining the collar of his white shirt red.
Too bad it wasn’t a whip soaked in wolfsbane, | thought, almost disappointed.
The smile finally slid off Jimmy's face, but Aurelia was on him in an instant, | saw her | blood off his lips-and
mouth two words behind her phony concern. More money.
Heh. Really going all out to deal with me, huh?
| couldn’t help but scoff. Dad was shaking with rage. “You-you're just-"
n to dab the
“Just what?” | cut in coldly. “Just someone who needs to be locked in a basement? Whipped with wolfsbane until
the skin splits open? Or maybe left out in the snow without food or water for three days straight?”
My expression was so icy that Dad was momentarily speechless.
“No need to be upset, Mr. Jax,” Jimmy said, licking the blood off his lips. There was a flash of menace in his eyes,
but it vanished as quickly as it appeared, replaced by that fake savior persona again. “Ms. Aubrey’s hostility only
proves she needs professional intervention. | understand-and I'm here to help.”
“Look at him!” Dad shouted, glaring at me. “Then look at you!”
“Oh, absolutely.” I gave Jimmy a chilly smile. “I'm counting on Dr. Jimmy now. | promise-I'll be the perfect
patient. And | guarantee... every single day you spend in my hwill be an unforgettable... delightful.

As | turned to head upstairs, | heard Dad’s angry roar and Aurelia’s fake-pleasant attempts to calm him
down.
Once in my room, | pulled out my bank card and checked the balance. Mateo had cthrough-there was 1.2
million already in the account. A fortune for someone likeright now.
Sure, once I'm officially adopted into the Alpha family, fand fortune will ceasily. But for now? Alpha
Henry still wanted nothing to do with me. If | wanted his support, | had to earn it first-with real results.
This 1.2 million? I'd have to stretch it carefully.
| stashed the card away, then pulled out the medical books Grandpa left me, along with two sets of needles, the
gold needles i always used, and the rare Bloodvine Set-made from crimson vine soaked in a mix of ancestral
werewolf blood and arcane potion.
Pretty sure there was no more werewolf ancestor blood in the world now, which meant this was probably the last
complete Bloodvine set in existence.
There were 81 gold needles. Only 48 Bloodvine needles-too unstable forto use yet.
Thinking of Mateo’s little brother and his illness, | hesitated, then took seven gold needles and stuffed them into
my bag, along with all the cash | had on hand.
| figured Dad and the others were still downstairs, and | had no desire to cross paths. So | shifted into wolf form
and leapt out the window. Dad wouldn't care anyway. When he asked about it later, | could make up something
on the spot.
What | didn’t expect... was to run into Charles after just a few steps.
