Chapter 651 An hour later, the light above the operating room finally went out.
The doors swung open.

"She's out of immediate danger." Dr. Cedric Clarke removed his surgical mask and hurried over to help Stella to her feet. Seeing how swollen and red her eyes were from crying, he let out a weary sigh. "She'll need to stay in the hospital for a while." Stella clung desperately to his hand. "Will she recover? Cedric, you're the best there is. Tellyou can fix this. Please." "I'll do everything I can," Cedric replied gently. He knew exactly what Stella wanted to hear, but as a doctor, he couldn't make promises he couldn't keep.
After so many years of marriage, Stella understood the real meaning behind Cedric's words.
He would do his best-but there were no guarantees.
Tears streamed down her cheeks again. "Why does this keep happening to Bryn? Why is she always the unlucky one?" "Star, I know you're upset, but you need to stop crying. Your eyes are badly swollen, and if you get too worked up, your mom will have words for you when she comes back-" "Bryn's lying in there and you're worried about my eyes?" Stella punched his arm in frustration. "Cedric, do you have any heart at all? Your son can have formula if he needs it, but Bryn-Bryn only gets one life!" Cedric had meant to comfort her, but instead, he'd stepped right onto a landmine.
"I'm sorry, Star. I know you're hurting, but what's done is done. Crying won't change it. Right now, the most important thing is to find a bone marrow match for Briony." At this, Stella fell silent, her sobs ceasing abruptly.

"It is more difficult with a rare blood type, but there are cases-recent ones, too- where matches were found internationally. The database is global now. We still have reason to hope." Sniffling, Stella nodded. "You're right. Ms. Hudson had leukemia too... Everyone thought she wouldn't make it, but somehow she survived. Maybe Bryn will have her own miracle." "Exactly. So don't lose hope. I'll report Bryn's case to the international registry right away, and Stewart has connections, too. If we Stewart all work together, there's a real chance for her." Stella wiped her tears away and turned to look at Stewart.
He had been silent the entire time.
She asked softly, "Do you have any contacts who might help?" "I'll put out the word," Stewart said, his voice tow but steady. "Jonah's on his way, too. Cedric, maybe you and he can work together to keep Bryn's symptoms under control until we find a donor." Cedric nodded. "I'll do everything I can." Stewart pulled out his phone. "I'll call Mr. Delaney and update him-he's still waiting for news." Stella watched as Stewart walked down the hall, phone pressed to his ear, disappearing into the emergency exit.
Cedric couldn't help but notice how intently Stella was watching andther yel man. He felt a surge of jealousy. "Stella, your husband is standing right here, you know." She shot him a glare. "Are you really picking a fight right now?" "I'd rather argue with you than see you looking at someone else like that." She smacked his arm again. "Do you ever quit? I just thought Stewart seems... different these days." "Oh? And how would you know what Stewart was like before?"
She shrugged. "I wouldn't say I really knew him, but back then he was like a roboto emotions, arrogant, just cold. Honestly, I couldn't stand him." "And now?" Stella considered for a moment. "He actually seems human." Cedric rolled his eyes. "..." He cleared his throat and offered an explanation. The way Stewart used to be-it was because of his medication. But you're right, he
changed a lot after everything that's happened. He's learned how to care, how to love, Whether it's Briony or his own kid's, he's determined to protect and respect them."
