Chapter 369: Witch's labyrinth
"Siren’s melody?" Inez’s head snapped up in surprise. She had to wonder if that was the case and whether her
mother was indeed after the siren’s melody for her to lock her father up for so long. "Maybe..."
Killian didn’t move away, nor did she.
"The Silver Dawn Pack was strange."
He changed the topic so suddenly that Inez felt her head swoon. For a second, she had to stay put to wrap her
head around the sudden change of topic. "What?" Though Inez was a bit confused, she knew that Killian wouldn't
bring up this topic for no reason.
"The pack that | was asked to investigate was really strange," he repeated.
"Strange...how...?"
He continued to stare at the wall in front of them. It was as if he was focused on something that Inez couldn't
quite see. The silence continued to stretch, and for a second, Inez thought that he might not have heard her
clearly. But then his lips twitch. It was a simple movement, but Inez, for sreason, felt perfectly in sync with
Killian, like she was attuned with every last tick of his muscles. Even his soft exhales and inhales, she noticed
them too. As for the growing tension between the two of them? She didn’t even need to start on it.
It was so palpable that she could notice it with just a single glance.
No physical contact; | cannot touch him, Inez reminded herself again and again. However, as easy as it sounded
when Tracy asked them to stay away from one another, Inez realised that it wasn’t as easy as she thought it was.
Thinking it in her mind and doing it in reality were two different things.
She truly underestimated how intense her desire toward this man was. Especially with her siren growling inside
her head, all she wanted was to press her skin against him. Wanted to feel his hands roaming on the edges of
her curves, against her skin. Something inside of her—Nerina—kept telling her that pulling away was useless,
and they should just forget all about the warnings that Tracy had given them.
And the way she was making these demands was not at all subtle. They were harsh. Like she was dragging her
toward Killian by her hair like a rag doll. Demanding, urging her to give up and let go of herself. This strange
connection was truly weird. The last tshe felt like this was when she found out that Dominic was her mate.
But even then, her desire never crossed that thin line where she almost forgot her rationality. It almost made her
brain go awry. It was as if he could tell her that he was a mass murderer, and she was going to accept him with
all his flaws and sins attached.
"So what happened there?" She asked gently. Hoping that the man would tell her the truth and wouldn't try to
hide it from her.
Somewhere she hoped that Killian hadn't set the entire pack on fire like she hoped and expected from him, but
somewhere deep down in her heart, she knew that she was asking for too much. He wouldn't be Killian if he

He leaned his head back and sighed heavily. "They are dead. But then again, they were never alive to begin
with." His voice was flat and emotionless. He told her about what happened in the Silver Dawn Pack, and by the
the finished, Inez couldn't help but shiver.
She couldn't help but say, "You mean to say that they were already dead?"
Killian tapped his fingers on the armrest and hummed. "I am not trying to demotivate you, but | have seen many
sirens and mermaids and even witch hunters trying to venture deep into the world of magic to avenge their
family or loved ones, but none of them ever survived. | know that you feel sorry for what happened to your
father. And it is indeed sad and unfortunate. But if you take my advice, you should drop this matter and continue
to live your life like always. It’s not like you do not attract enough attention to yourself already. So try to keep a
low profile."
Inez bit the inside of her cheek. She knew that what Killian was telling her was not wrong, and he was only
looking after her. She should indeed have let go of this obsession and stopped when she still had time, but she
couldn't. Especially not when she had seen the tragic life that her father had lived in the past. She wanted to
know more about her father. This was what he deserved.
"What | have told you and the sufferings that you went through in the dungeons are just the tip of the iceberg.
The more you dig, the worse it will get, and you will end up falling into an abyss from where you might never be
able to get out," stated Killian, picking up a bottle of water; he brought it to his lips and took a sip from it. He
then said to her, "If you don’t believe me, then you can ask more from your friend. It seems like she knows what
is going on. Maybe she will be willing to tell you more about the situation."
Inez felt her stomach do a little flip when she heard Killian say "your friend’; the way he spoke made her
protective instincts go all alert.
It was good to know that even though she had gone through so much, she was still Inez, who hadn't lost her
humanity in that prison cell. The person who still cared about her friends, even when things were really tough.
Even when life had kicked her ass in more than one fashion. And there was no way she was going to throw Tracy
under the bus in front of Killian.
"You cannot—"
"lI am not going to do anything to her until she proves that she is not worth the mercy that | am showing her," he
cuts her off. His voice was rather calm, which unnerved Inez in a way that she couldn't explain.
Inez sighed in relief, but at the same

But before she could make any unreasonable demands, like asking Killian to refrain from killing or hurting Tracy,
the man got on his feet and said to her, "You should take srest. | still need to submit a report to Seth. He

Inez swallowed the words that she

Was she really making a mistake by getting entangled with witches and magic? But something kept telling her
that even if she wanted to let loose of the vines of the past, it was not going to be easy.

The sight of the skeleton made the group of misfits following Tracy pick up their pace. The labyrinth effect
seemed to be working on them quite well.
"What kind of place is this?" Tao asked while looking around. The place felt cold, but there was a channel of
energy that felt alive, as if this entire maze was not simply a maze but a living creature, at least with the
changing appearance of every corridor made him feel that something was weird about this place. It changed as
if sensing the mood of the inhabitants.
"It's a witch's labyrinth. Created through the darkest of the magic spells plus countless sacrifices, it’s like a giant
stone python. As long as it swallows something, it's really hard to get out of this place. So you better stay close
toor else," Tracy wasn’t scaring these men, but she was speaking the truth. If they didn’t believe her, then
oh well.
