Paige tightened her hold on the medical kit. “Yes. The blood test results cin, and a few of them were

concerning. | ctoday to do a follow-up test.”

Hamilton's stomach tightened at her words. He quickly stepped aside to let her in. “Please wait in the living

room. Daniela’s still having breakfast. I'll bring her over when she’s finished.”

Paige gave a small nod.

Hamilton walked back to the dining room to tell Daniela.

Daniela glanced toward the living room where Paige stood tense, then offered her a faint smile.

“All right, 1 understand,” she said.

Paige sank into a chair in the living room, her palms damp with sweat. She had seen Daniela a few times. She

was strikingly beautiful and carried herself with quiet grace, her eyes sharp enough to make anyone feel

exposed. Paige’s stomach knotted, but the thought of her own child hardened her resolve. She stared at the

medical kit.

Inside waited the spider Josh had given her. All she needed to do was hide it in Daniela’s bedroom to finish her

task.

Paige nodded, her mind racing to find a way into Daniela’s room.

Before she could speak, Daniela smiled and said, “It's not convenient to do this here. Let's go to my room.”

As they passed one of the bedroom doors, Daniela smiled. “This is the room I share with my husband. It’s a little

messy, so | won't invite you in. Here's the study. I'll use the bathroom first. You can wait inside.”
