Chapter 203: Chapter 203: Reunion with Witch Mother
Serena’s POV~
The room was quiet tonight. The soft glow of the moon poured through the window, silver light spilling across the
floor. | was sitting at my desk, absently running my fingers over the rim of a teacup, lost in thought.
Everything had been too quiet today.
| had almost grown used to the stillness...until a sudden, sharp knock broke through it.
| looked up, startled.
Before | could even answer, the door swung open.
And in the next instant... | was pulled into a tight embrace.
The breath left my lungs as arms wrapped around me...warm, firm, and trembling with emotion. For a heartbeat,
| froze. My mind went blank.
But | knew that touch. That scent. That voice.
"My baby," a soft, trembling whisper breathed against my ear. "I missed you so much... finally, | could see you
again."
| blinked, my heart giving a painful twist. Slowly, I lifted my hands, resting them lightly on her back.
"...Mother," | whispered.
The Witch Mother pulled back just enough to look at me, her face full of love and relief. Her eyes shone faintly,
the corners wet with tears she didn’t bother to hide.
She looked just the same...beautiful, composed, powerful. Yet in this moment, she looked like a gentle mother,
but | knew better.
Her hands cupped my face as she smiled warmly. "You've grown even more beautiful, Serena. Just like | knew
you would."
| forced a smile, soft and careful. "You always say that, Mother."
"Oh, because it's true." She laughed lightly, brushing a stray lock of hair behind my ear. "You've been eating
well, haven't you? You look healthy."
Her voice was full of affection, every word wrapped in warmth.
And | played along. | smiled. | nodded. | answered her questions about my days, my health, my routine...all with
the calm, gentle tone of a perfect daughter.
But inside, my skin was crawling with disgust.
Because | knew who she truly was.
Because | knew what she was capable of.
Still, I kept up the act.
When her eyes softened with love, | mirrored the emotion. When she laughed, | joined her, even if the sound felt
hollow in my throat.
"Mother," | said quietly, "I didn’t expect you to visit."
"Oh, how could | stay away?" she said with a soft chuckle, smoothing the sleeves of my dress as though | were
still a child. "I've been so worried. | needed to see you with my own eyes."
I nodded, keeping my gaze lowered. "I'm doing fine. Truly."
"I'm glad." She smiled again, that sgentle smile that could melt stone. "You've always been my pride,
Serena."
Something in my chest twisted painfully.
Then her hand brushed my cheek once more, tender, affectionate...motherly. But behind her eyes, there was

And as | looked closer, | realized it wasn’t just love that burned there.
It was control. Possession. A reminder of who | belonged to.
| barely had tto think before another presence filled the doorway.
| turned my head slowly...my heart skipping a beat.
There he was.
My father.
He stood by the door, tall and composed, his expression soft and distant. His silver hair caught the moonlight,
and his gentle eyes settled on me.
"Father," | said quietly.
My father stood at the doorway, silent.
His tall frwas cast in the dim moonlight, the soft silver glow brushing across his calm face. His expression
was unreadable—gentle but distant, as though he were not sure if he should step forward or stay where he was.
| stared at him quietly, my chest tightening.
And then, my mother turned toward him.
The Witch Mother's eyes brightened at once, her whole face softening with a glow that felt almost... too warm.
"Your father was the one who broughthere," she said, her voice trembling with a strange emotion. "I've been
so restless without you... so, so restless."
Her tone was sweet, almost affectionate...but | caught the faint flicker of calculation beneath it.
My gaze shifted back to my father.
He didn’t say anything, only gave a small nod. But | could see it...his discomfort. The slight tension in his
shoulders, the way his jaw tightened before he relaxed it again. He wasn’t at ease around her. Not at all.
Yet he'd brought her here... for me.
Something warm stirred faintly in my chest.
He was trying. He had always been the quieter one...distant, careful, but he had cbecause she said | wanted
to see her.
"Thank you, Father," | said softly, stepping toward him.
That simple sentence seemed to brighten him at once. His lips curved into a gentle smile that reached his eyes,
and for a moment, the stiffness in his stance faded.
He coughed lightly, almost shyly. "Don’t thank me, Serena. Is this not what a father should do for his daughter?"
The way he said it...soft and a little awkward...madelaugh before | could stop myself. A small, genuine giggle
escaped, light and unguarded.
He chuckled too, rubbing the back of his neck as though embarrassed. "It's been stsince | saw you
smile like that," he said. "It suits you."
"Does it?" | teased gently.
"Of course," he replied, the warmth in his tone sincere. Then, as if remembering something, he added, "Do you
need anything? | can have it arranged for you. New dresses, books, maybe something sweet? Young girls like
eating sweets."
| couldn’t help but smile again, softer this time. "I'm fine, Father. Really. But... thank you."
He nodded, looking relieved. For a brief, fragile moment, it almost felt normal, like we were an ordinary family,
like things hadn't already been twisted and broken by power, by secrets, by her.
Because when | glanced at my mother, | saw it.
Her expression had stiffened. The polite smile still sat on her lips, but her eyes had darkened. There was jealousy
there, faint but unmistakable.
She stood behind us, perfectly poised, hands clasped before her like a saint. But | could feel the cold edge in her
presence, the way her warmth suddenly turned hollow.
"I see you two have much to talk about," she said lightly, her tone calm but her eyes glinting. "It's a beautiful
thing... the bond between father and daughter."
My father turned to her, polite as ever. "It’s been a long tsince | had the chance," he said gently. "Let me
have this moment."
Her smile froze for just a second before she nodded gracefully. "Of course," she said, though the sweetness in
her tone felt too fake.
| watched her from the corner of my eye, the way her gentle expression wavered ever so slightly, like a mask
beginning to slip.
So that was it.
Jealousy.
For a moment, | couldn't believe it, but then again, it was her.
A small, humorless smile tugged at my lips as | lowered my gaze, letting my hair fall slightly forward to hide my
expression. So now you're jealous, Mother? | thought coldly. Jealous of what you created yourself?
My eyes darkened as the truth sank in.
She had senthere, her precious

| lifted my head slowly, forcing a soft smile as | turned toward my father again. "Father," | said sweetly,
deliberately ignoring the witch standing behind me. "We should travel somewhere; we have not visited the
capital, right?"
His expression brightened instantly. "Of course we can go," he said with warmth. "There are many good places
here."
| laughed softly. "I want to visit sgood places."
Out of the corner of my eye, | could feel her watching us. | could almost hear the crack in her patience, the faint
grind of teeth hidden behind her gentle lips.
And that was when | decided to return the favor.

His face softened completely. "I'll take you there, Serena."
Behind us, the witch mother’s laughter chimed suddenly. "Oh, how sweet," she said, stepping forward with
graceful steps, her long dress whispering against the floor. "You two look so close... it warms my heart."
Her tone was syrupy, but her eyes were anything but.
| turned slightly toward her, tilting my head with a smile that matched hers in perfect imitation. "Of course we
are, Mother. You always said a daughter should love her father, didn’t you?"
