Chapter 1463:
Ernest blinked and sat up straighter. “Let's go.”
“Okay.”
Elissa rushed to her desk and sank into her chair.
Her phone buzzed—another message from Ernest. “Elissa, I'll be here. Whenever you're ready to see me.”
She stared at the screen, speechless.
Closing her eyes, she felt a sharp ache in her chest. Her first impulse was to block his number. But then Locke's
face appeared in her mind.
She hesitated.
She couldn't block Ernest. Whatever was between them now, Locke was still their child.
Setting the phone down, she pressed a hand gently to her lower abdomen.
Had there really been life there once?
Remembering Hadley’s words that morning, she picked the phone back up and sent a message to Robin. “Do you

The weather had turned gloomy. Rain had been falling since noon.
Elissa left the office on time.
The moment she stepped outside the building, she spotted Ernest's Cayenne parked across the street.
He must have seen her too, because the car door opened, and he stepped out, umbrella in hand. He then started
walking toward her.
Elissa kept her gaze straight ahead and didn’t break stride. She walked past him—and his car—without a glance.
She'd already called for a ride, and it arrived right on time. Without hesitation, she got in.
Ernest stood in the rain, motionless for a few seconds, still holding the umbrella.
“Mr. Flynn,” his driver said quietly, easing the car forward. “Should we follow?”
“Yes.” Ernest climbed in, closing the umbrella. “But not too close.”
“Understood.”
Elissa’s car headed toward the city center.
When it stopped, she stepped out and entered a small cafe that served light meals.
Inside, she pulled out her phone and made a call.
