Lucien’s brow furrowed, his patience thin. “I’m not following you.”
“Don’t play dumb! You're pushing Alden out for Kaia’s sake. If people hear about this, how will it make you look?”
“Mom!”
Alden cut Joanne off, his voice sharp with frustration, “I'm the one who asked to go abroad!”
Joanne shook her head, unconvinced. “Why, Alden? Why would you want to leave? It’s got to be Lucien
pressuring you, isn’t it?”
“No! This has nothing to do with Uncle Lucien. | don’t want to stay here doing nothing with my life. | need to go
abroad, challenge myself, and grow.
“This conversation is over. My decision to leave has nothing to do with anyone else. I'm grateful to Uncle Lucien
for givingthis chance, so stop making a fuss!”
Joanne’s heart sank!
Her son was leaving again, still unmarried, not sure when to cback.

Her dreams of having grandchildren felt further away than ever.
Lucien had no patience left for Joanne’s complaints.
One more outburst, and he might just show her the door for good.
With everything settled, Joanne sank into a gloom, endlessly venting to Zane.
Zane, exasperated, finally snapped, “If you keep nagging, we will get divorced too.”
He pinned the blfor raising an ungrateful foster daughter squarely on Joanne.
Joanne exploded, her voice trembling with indignation. “Zane, you're never around to deal with family matters,
and now it's my fault? You were the one who insisted on adopting Luna! How was | supposed to know she’d turn
out to be such a snake?
“If you're tired of this marriage, fine-I'm done too. Don’t think I'm blind to the women you've got on the side!”
Furious, Joanne packed her bags and stormed off to her parents’ house.
That evening, Kaia and Lucien returned to the Graves Manor for dinner, finding Allen alone, looking frailer than
ever.

The warm, grandfatherly smile that once lit up his face had been replaced by a stern, weary expression.
“Allen, how about Lucien and | move back to keep you
company?” Kaia offered gently.
Allen waved her off, his voice gruff but fond. “No need. You young folks need your space. Why fuss over an old
man like me? I'm practically knocking on death's door already.”
Lucien chimed in, his tone teasing, “He’s got a point.”
“A point?” Allen shot him a glare, his eyes narrowing.
If Lucien dared say one more word, Allen might just grab his cane and swing at this brat.
“How about | find you a nice lady friend, Dad?” Lucien grinned, mischief sparkling in his eyes.
Allen hurled his cane, but Lucien dodged with a laugh.
“Look at you, getting all riled up over a little joke,” Lucien said, still chuckling.
Kaia’s lips twitched, silently thinking Lucien deserved it.
He'd probably send Allen back to the hospital at this rate,

But their playful banter lightened Allen’s mood, and by the end of dinner, the old man’s usual smile had
returned.
After dinner, Lucien nudged Kaia’s shoulder with a smug grin. “See how | cheered up my dad? I've got skills.”
“You call that cheering? More like stressing him out,” Kaia shot back, rolling her eyes.
“Con, I'd never push my dad’s buttons-especially not when I'm counting on him to help raise our baby.”
Kaia stifled a laugh.
This guy’s really piling on the chores for Allen.

Back home, Kaia was itching to get away for the weekend, craving a break to clear her head.
Lucien suggested a beach getaway, but she shook her head. “The islands are fun, but we've done that already.
I'm in the mood for something livelier, with more people.”
It was a casual comment, but Lucien took it to heart, racking his brain for ideas.
The next day, Frank mentioned that the company’s annual

“Camping? Is that any fun?” Lucien asked, curiosity piqued.

Frank shrugged. “It’s decent. You find a campground, pitch stents-there are ones with double beds or
standard singles. You wake up to the sunrise, have a bonfire party at night, grill sfood...”
“Signand my wife up,” Lucien said without hesitation.
That evening, he pitched the idea to Kaia, his eyes bright with
excitement.
Kaia frowned, hesitating. “Lucien, only Jude and Mr. Miller at my firm know we're married. And at your
company...It might be awkward.”
Lucien’s lips tightened, a hint of frustration in his voice. “So we still can’t go public with our marriage?”

Kaia sighed but complied, a smile tugging at her lips.
The sofa creaked and swayed late into the night, the rhythm
unbroken.
As Lucien drifted off to sleep, he couldn't help but wonder if their baby was already on the way.

“Can you imagine? Our little firm piggybacking on Graves Group's plans!”
Kaia’s lips twitched.
Sure, Lucien and his endless schemes.
By s“coincidence,” the firm's tent assignments left Kaia as the odd one out, landing her a deluxe tent with a
big bed.
And, as if on cue, on the day of departure, the firm's shuttle was one seat short.

Alex, ever the problem-solver, piped up. “Kaia, | checked with Graves Group-they’ve got plenty of room on their
bus. Why don’t you ride with them?”
Kaia forced a smile. “Sure.”
Lucien, how much did you bribe Mr. Miller for this?
But as she watched the Graves Group buses pull away one by one, leaving her behind, Kaia stood there,
dumbfounded.
Then, with exaggerated nonchalance, Lucien rolled down his car window. “Well, look who it is-Ms. Domont?
What's this? You got left behind?”
