Chapter 38 I'm Sick Of You
“What are you doing here?” Kaia’s voice was flat.
Alden scoffed, “Oh, cut the act, Kaia. Isn't this what you wanted? Forto cto you?”
Kaia couldn't help but roll her eyes. “I don’t get what you're saying. Get out of my way. I'm going to be late for
work.”
Alden stood in front of her like a wall. “You really going to stand there and pretend you didn’t go crying to Zane?”
Kaia’s brows lifted slightly. “Excuse me?”
Alden stepped closer, his voice rising with each word. “You really hadfooled, Kaia. One minute, you're calling
off the wedding. Next, you're whispering crap to Zane behind back? You've really got this two-faced act down
cold.”

He continued. “What is it, huh? Wantso bad you're playing hard to get now? All this just so I'll come
crawling?”
Alden’s face was a dark scowl. “Well, congrats. I'm officially sick of you.”
The sharp crack of a slap echoed in the air.
Kaia stared at him, her eyes like chips of ice, her hand tingling.
“Right back at you. I'm sick of you, too. I'm sick of you, too.”
She added. “You think | want this wedding? Your parents are the ones too scared to tell Sir Graves the truth. You
talk tough with me, but you won't even tell your grandpa you're out. You're scared? Fine. I'll do it.
“Eight o’clock tonight at the Graves Manor. Be there.”
Kaia pushed past him and stalked off.

The stunned man stood frozen in place for a long moment.
What the hell just happened?
Kaia... She actually hit me.
His jaw tightened. “Kaia, don’t you walk away from me!”
But by the the turned to look for her, she had already gotten into a car and driven off.
Eight o'clock?
He let out a derisive snort. He'd just see if she had the guts to actually show up at his grandfather's and demand
they call the whole thing off.

Zane strolled by Lucien’s office. “Dinner at htonight?”
He asked casually as if Lucien wasn’t the one who had sent the surveillance footage from his son’s company last
night.
Lucien shook his head. “Not tonight, Zane. Business trip. I'll be back next week.”
“Alright. Don’t burn yourself out. Take it easy.” As Zane reached the door, he paused. “I've set Luna up on a blind
date. So relax. What you're worried about isn’t going to happen.”
Lucien smiled faintly, “Good. Wouldn't want any unnecessary gossip about the family making the rounds.”

Kaia walked in the firm looking like she'd chewed on nails for
breakfast.
Warren raised an eyebrow. “Whoa, Kaia. Who pissed in your coffee this morning?”
“Just ran into a stray dog,” she muttered. “Tried to bite me.”
Warren's eyes widened. “Wait, for real? Are you okay? You need
a rabies shot?”
Kaia shook her head. “Didn't get me. Don’t worry. | slapped it
back. We're even.”
Warren was speechless.
Is she really talking about a dog?
Jude was taking point on the Graves Group M&A, with Kaia and Warren providing support.
Jude had offloaded his other smaller cases to Vanessa.
“Warren, Kaia, just added you to the

Warren squinted at his phone. “Huh, who's this one? Mr.

Jude leaned closer. “That profile picture rings a bell...”
Warren tapped the profile. “No info. No idea who it is. Probably just sintern.”
Neither of them noticed Kaia, who had frozen solid beside them.
Oh, please, no.
Kaia prayed.
It's just one M&A deal. Does the actual CEO really need to be in the trenches for this?
Suddenly, Jude slapped his thigh. “Wait a sec!”
Kaia nearly jumped out of her chair.
Did Jude discover something?
